Tommy Garceau, IMBCR’s Marathon Team Captain

Dec 9, 2014

Tommy, who has been Dr. Berenson’s able assistant for many years, has a passion for athletics and training.

In July 2013, he started Team IMBCR at a time when he was also participating in several marathons, half-marathons and trail running and half iron distance events. Team IMBCR later became an official charity of the 2014 ASICS LA Marathon and our team of 21 runners raised $32,660.00 for the event.  Our fundraising was enhanced by our obtaining charitable grants from major pharmaceutical companies and others that are ongoing sponsors of our endurance events. Importantly, every runner who started the race finished it.

Not satisfied with his leading Team IMBCR for that marathon, in May 2014, Tommy completed Ironman 70.3 in Hawaii, his first 70.3 Half-Iron distance event.

Since then Tommy has continued to train IMBCR’s team.  He also traveled to San Francisco and participated in the Road Runners Club of America event, raising funds for IMBCR, and became a RRCA Certified Run Coach, providing full training schedules for runners of any distance.

In November, 2014, Tommy completed Ironman Arizona, a full distance Ironman which consists of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and then followed by a full 26.2 mile marathon.  His time? 13 hours 27 minutes and 4 seconds, see the photo taken at the finish……..what an effort!

Moving forward, Team IMBCR is an official charity of the 2015 ASICS LA Marathon and our team of 24 has already started training for the March 2015 event.

Tommy will also be fundraising and competing in 2015 Ironman 70.3 Oceanside, California; the 2015 Ironman Copenhagen, Denmark and, in October, with the best triathletes in the world at the 2015 Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii.
